Hootons hardware store is an important part of Austin’s tech scene, and its location in the heart of downtown has attracted a large number of tech startups, like Bodega, Triton, and many others.
However, its been a little over a year since Hooton announced that it would shut down its Austin hardware store, and the store’s closure is still a bit of a mystery to us.
Today, we had the opportunity to chat with co-founder and COO of Hootins Hardware, Tom R. Riddle, to find out more about the store and its future.
In January, we spoke to Hoothens founder Chris Hootersen about the company’s future, and we also asked him about the future of Hoots hardware in Austin.
Today’s conversation with Tom Riddle is a bit more in-depth, and it is our favorite part of this interview, so we’ve transcribed it below.
Hootens is a small company that was founded by Chris Hoots.
He was a software engineer for several years and is now a co-founding member of Hooters.
Hooters hardware stores are primarily focused on hardware, but also provide an outlet for online orders and other items that are currently unavailable in stores.
Hooters is not just a hardware store.
It’s also a community, and one that we love.
It is an incredibly passionate and helpful community, which is why we are happy to announce that Hootes will be shutting down its hardware store in Austin this week.
Hoots hardware is one of the most popular stores in Austin and its a great place to shop.
We are so excited about Hootains future.
We’ve been working hard to get the store up and running, and this is the perfect opportunity to announce our plans.
We look forward to bringing a new community-driven atmosphere to the store, bringing the store closer to the people who make Hootin’s the coolest place in Austin for all of your electronics needs.
We know that we will be working with Austin’s local businesses to reopen Hooths store.
We will be adding a new location at the corner of 6th and Lamar, where we have also planned a store at the very end of Lamar.
There will be a new shopfront and a new patio with more tables and a small coffee bar at the end of the street.
We want to make sure the store stays a part of our community, just like we did with Hootn, and will also be expanding to nearby businesses.
We’re also working with the city of Austin to help us find new spaces to build out the store.
The store will still be available for a short period of time, but we’ll keep a close eye on what happens over the next couple of months.
Hooters hardware is an awesome store, but it has been a bit over a month since we announced that Hoots would be shutting its Austin store down.
Is this still a mystery?
Is this the end for Hoots?
Hootons is currently working with Hooters to re-open the store on the corner.
Is that all we know about Hoots new location?
