A new hardware shop in Oakland is hoping to bring a little life to the neighborhood.
The new business, Hardware Shop, opened its doors on the corner of 14th Street and Third Avenue in downtown San Francisco, on Saturday.
The storefront will have a cafe, a bike shop, a computer store, a movie theater and a few other small spaces.
The Hardware Shop will serve as a place to hang out and shop.
The owner, Dan Brown, told CBS2 that the goal is to provide a place where people can come in and connect with other like-minded individuals.
“I’ve been to many people’s homes and they are just amazing.
It’s a place that you can really get to know other people,” Brown said.
Brown has lived in Oakland for five years and has owned a hardware shop since 2011.
He told CBS 2 he is inspired by his surroundings and his community.
“I think it’s so important that we embrace the people that we love, the people who are in our community and we don’t see them as just outsiders.
I think it really brings me to my city,” Brown explained.
The hardware store will be open until February, with plans to reopen the space next year.
